Categorized as a psychological thriller, MULHOLLAND DRIVE earned David Lynch the Best Director Award at the 2001 Cannes Film Festival. The film, set in a dream-like Los Angeles, spoilt neither by traffic jams nor smog, stars Naomi Watts, Laura Harring and Justin Theroux. A woman who is left with amnesia after a car crash wanders the streets of Los Angeles in a daze before taking refuge in an apartment. There she is discovered by Betty (Watts), a wholesome Midwestern blonde who has come to the City of Angels seeking fame as an actress. The puzzle begins to unfold, propelling the audience through a mysterious labyrinth of sensual experiences finally arriving at the intersection of dreams and nightmares.
